Platinum is a silvery-white,lustrous transition metal, resistant to corrosion.It is malleable and ductile when pure.It has magnetic properties when combined with cobalt.Platinum metal occurs in nature contaminated with small amounts of all the platinum group metals.Iridium,osmium,palladium,ruthenium,and rhodium.It does not corrode of tarnish in air and is not affected by water.In its finely divided form,platinum is an excellent catalyst.Similar to palladium,platinum absorbs large volumes of hydrogen.
